DALNON THE DASHING
CHARACTER BIO
The Sea is the truest reflection of the nature of the world. Why? It provides all one needs if they are strong enough to take it; it gives freedom beyond measure, and it takes life with no remorse. For the Seaborne, life at sea is an unfair battle for survival against powerful creatures and unpredictable storms. Their island homes cannot support great industry or agriculture, so they must liberate what they can’t make themselves from whoever might be holding it at the time. Dalnon understands this better than most.
Nothing comes easy growing up an orphan at a brothel. Despite that, Dalnon is the first to say that his childhood was quite fun, what with all the sailors, “aunties”, and opportunities for mischief. Quick to sing his own praises, Dalnon “The Dashing”, “The Bold” and sometimes “The Laughing Blade”, is a master duelist and sailor. As a Sea-Elf, he is blessed by Tay’Tea the Godshark, so water gives him no pause. As a Seaborne, he is a ruthless pirate (such an ugly word) and skilled navigator. While much of his legend is embellished, most agree that he came into possession of his prized ship, The Wind Rose, by merit… and also by murdering his former captain.
While far less traditional than other Seaborne, Dalnon has sailed and with the gift of Dehvathae even flown his ship across the world. Despite his young age (being born after The Throne Wars) he has personally opened raiding routes deeper inland than most pirates twice his age, embracing the new technology of the Skyships with far more enthusiasm than others. As such, he is happy to take whatever he can to keep his ship skyborn, even if it means playing ferryman to a hated Inquisitor. Brash to the point of foolishness, confident to the point of lunacy, and while some attribute his success to luck, he is in truth a once-in-a-generation talent. While his mannerisms are of that of refined bravado and charm, inside he is as the Sea: wild, mercurial, and pitiless.
